ITE306: E-Commerce Application Design

Course Description:

This course introduces students to models and applications used in E-commerce and E-business.  It covers the fundamental issues and typical challenges one can face in designing an E-Commerce web-based application.  It starts with a review of web and server-side technologies, then moves on to design issues of creating tiered and scalable applications; takes a look at various e-commerce applications and developing business-to-business applications using XML, SOAP AND BizTalk servers, among others.

Course Goal:

The goal of this course is to introduce students to the fundamentals of e-commerce from both a business and an IT point of view.

Course Objectives:

Following their completion of this course, students will be able to:

  1. Understand and demonstrate their literacy and fluency with E-Commerce concepts and applications
  2. Identify and explain major infrastructural components of the Internet and World Wide Web.
  3. Explain and demonstrate how marketing and revenue generation is different than traditional models.
  4. Explain the implications of today’s e-business environments on legal, ethical, and tax issues.
