My Education Journey

The first step towards my education was in 1982 when I started my primary school at the age of six. After twelve years, which is the minimum period to finish both primary and secondary school in my country, I started my university education at the Salahaddin University-Hawler in 1994. I was granted a place at the Civil Engineering department at the faculty of engineering.

In 1998 I graduated from the university holding a BSc. degree in Civil Engineering. I was the top student for that year in the department. Soon after my graduation I realized that I am not interested in civil engineering. Therefore, I decided to pursue another career.

I was more interested in computers and IT applications rather than civil engineering. Luckily I had good chances to work in the field of computing as part-time jobs since 1995 when I was still a full-time student at the Civil Engineering department. This was followed by some more chances to work and discover my capabilities in this field. Therefore I decided to study for a degree in a computing related subject to strengthen my actual experience with added academic knowledge.

I started to study for a BSc. degree in Computing and Statistics at the University of Sulaimani as an evening student while I was working full-time at the World Health Organization (UN WHO) in the same field of computing. I graduated from my second university in 2005 holding a BSc. with honor in Computing and Statistics.

Interestingly this time I did even much better than I did at my first university and I was the top student again with distinction results. This achievement encouraged me to pursue my studying in the same field and decided to seek post graduate opportunities abroad especially in either the UK or the USA.

I was granted a graduate diploma seat in Computing and Informatics at the Nottingham Trent International College (NTIC) and to start a PhD in the same field at the Nottingham Trent University (NTU). On the other hand, and very thankfully, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) agreed to support me financially to finish both degrees. Therefore I left Kurdistan heading to the United Kingdom to continue my education and I actually started to study for my Graduate Diploma in January 2006.

For yet another time in my life I was the top student with distinction results in my studying for the Graduate Diploma of Computing and Informatics and I was awarded by NTU for my achievements. Afterwards, I started to study for my PhD at the same university in October 2006. This one took me more than three years to finish, but eventually I finished my PhD in August 2010.

I passed my PhD examinations with very good results and came back to Kurdistan to put my experience into work. I have been offered a Senior Lecturer position at the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) among other job offers. I decided to accept the job offer and started the job in the IT department since October, 2010.

I am currently fully dedicated to my job at AUIS and looking forward to serve my country and transfer my long and hard gained knowledge and experience to my students.
