Course Description:
This course builds on the knowledge and skills students have gained from ITE304: Fundamentals of Web Systems to give them a deeper insight into design elements of Web sites. It covers various aspects of design such as usability, accessibility, portability, scalability, and cross-browser compatibility. It focuses on design and presentation using various visual elements such as graphics, animation, typography and overall layout. The course will be enriched with various practical and hands on sessions to support the theoretic concepts and principles covered.
Course Goal:
The goal of this course is to compliment students knowledge of Web systems with necessary design skills and techniques to be able to produce more professional end products, as well as gaining a critical eye for evaluating Web site designs.
Course Objectives:
More specifically the objectives of the course are:
- Understanding professional Web site design principles such as usability, portability, scalability, and cross-browser compatibility.
- Experimenting different design elements such as graphics, animations, typography, and layout.
- Practicing the Web project design process from an initial rough sketch to a final finished layout.
- Creating user-based navigation to allow visitors to find contents easily and know where they are on the site at all times.
- Covering necessary file naming and directory conventions, as well as creating flowcharts that depicts the structure of Web sites.
- Introducing the students to common design techniques and available templates to be better equipped for real life implementation of Web sites.
